What_Eco_Paint_Really_Means

Defining what Eco Paint means is utilizing Green Earth Friendly safer paints today. Meaning having it's lowest volatile odor content or compounds (V.O.C) within it's non-toxic formulation. A safer latex emulsion 100% acrylic house paint, available with most major paint brands now.

Eco acronym stands for ecological, products derived from the earth. Many items made today are Eco Friendly, including a huge choice of non-toxic wall paints. Today, most major paint stores offer a complete line of Green Earth Friendly Eco Paints.

Safer interior ecological sustainable paints actually has earth's own clay and minerals within it's chemical makeup, being a more meaningful and substantial, organic Eco Paint.

Most 100% acrylic latex paints or either zero or low VOC. If they are low, and not zero, their colorant additives making a particular color has higher VOC's than the paint base it's actually tinting.

Still in all, even low VOC paints, including exterior types are much more friendly to our environment and air quality, than years ago. Since most painting have lower VOC's, it makes perfect sense to use Green Earth Friendly safer paints today.

The term Eco did not always mean ecological~

How Eco Paint Started

How_Eco_Paint_Started

In early 1990's, this acronym was quickly changing from economical, to ecological.

1991 was TV's first reality show on Discovery channel, called "The Eco Challenge". Soon afterwards, Citizens® had a watch called the Eco Drive, as it still does today.

Seemed like everything was headed for a more Greener society by early 90's. Eco term was also changing from lower economy price, to more Green Earth Friendly Ecologic nature.

Coining the phrase Eco Paint in 1993, becoming an S-corp, located in Denver, CO. as a painting contractor. It was 6 to 7 years before the first Green Earth Friendly paint was ever on a retail shelf.

1999, Sherwin-Williams™ came out with the first Low VOC paint called Harmony®. Color additives still had higher VOC's, keeping it Low, not Zero VOC. Just the very next year, Benjamin Moore™ answered with very first true Zero VOC paint.

Even though Green Friendly Eco Paints were initially more expensive, we kept our pricing just the same. Today, those same Earth Friendly paints have the similar price points as others, not costing anymore. That's just another reason to enjoy those benefits. Seems like just about every house paint has lower VOC's than before!

Go Green!

Originating the term ''Eco Paint'' is synopsis with one of the top painting contractors in Denver. A household name, painters painting interior, exterior homes and commercial applications. Being in the forefront of a huge wave of sustainability, incorporating products much safer, the painting industry has to offer.

Using more Green environmental products, not costing anymore, especially keeping air quality at it's highest, is just right for you.

During that same time, our painting clients back then asking us what "Eco" meant. "Hey Cal, we'd like you painting our home, but what does Eco Paint mean". Quickly responding, I said, "Economical as well as ecological. Keeping both definitions current in the minds of our public.

Using the safest paints available for your home, with our prices most affordable". They just shrugged their shoulders, and agreed with our proposals. As term Eco was so new to being associated with house painting. And that's how it all started.

FROM JESSICA BEST A wall coating that helps eliminate odors? Paint that helps reduce airborne VOCs - Show your clients the latest in paint technology.

Whether you're specifying paint for commercial or residential spaces - new construction or renovation - you can offer your clients the latest in coating technology.

Harmony Paint from Sherwin-Williams was first introduced several years ago as a zero VOC interior coating with a lasting finish and antimicrobial agents that resist the growth of mold and mildew on the paint film and inhibit the growth of bacterial odors.

The formula was then enhanced with Odor Eliminating Technology, which helps reduce ambient odors from organic sources. From smoke to garlic to wet dog, common odors dissipate in spaces painted with Harmony Paint. Rooms stay fresher, longer, making it ideal for multifamily, healthcare, institutional, commercial and residential projects.

And this spring the flat and egg-shell sheens were further enhanced with Formaldehyde Reducing Technology. What does this mean? It means this exclusive formula reduces airborne concentrations of formaldehyde and other aldehydes. By reducing these kinds of VOCs, which are often emitted by common building materials such as insulation, carpet, cabinets and fabric, Harmony Paint actually helps promote better indoor air quality. (The length of time Harmony Paint actively reduces odors and formaldehyde depends on the concentration, the frequency of exposure and the amount of painted surface area.)

Dulux Quick Dry water-based paint helps take the hard work out of decorating. But did you know its impact on the environment is significantly lower than that of solvent-based paint?

It’s self-undercoating, low-odour and keeps its long-lasting whiteness. With Dulux Quick Dry water-based paint, you’re not just making a smart choice for your home; you’re also helping to do your bit for the environment.

At Dulux, we take sustainability seriously, which is why we have a bold ambition to radically reduce VOC emissions across our product portfolio. To do this, we’re switching from solvent-based to water-based paint wherever possible.

VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) are solvents which readily evaporate, contributing to the formation of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. They increase a product’s environmental impact and are found in higher levels in solvent-based paints.

Why Should You Use Eco Paint Inside Your Home?

Benefits Using Green Earth Friendly Eco Paint

The sky is the limit of reasons why you should use Green Earth Friendly paint inside your home. Not only keeping air quality as clean as possible, from expected mothers, to infants, to seniors, or anyone with breathing concerns all benefit.

Today, most ecological paints have same price points as others having higher VOC's. As an industry standard, most latex water borne paints have lower fumes and paint smells than yesterday. This is true for exterior paints as well.

  • Contribution
  • Less gases
  • Better air quality
  • Expected mothers to-be
  • Infants
  • Seniors
  • Those with breathing concerns
  • Same price points as other paints
  • Same paint coverage
  • Color retention

There are many advantages you should use Eco Paint inside your home today. Not only using a product derived and produced using more of our earth's natural resources, but you can contribute to the Green Movement just by having a low to zero VOC Earth Friendly paint since you need to paint anyway.

If not just contributing to a Greener society, buying Green Earth Friendly paints, other healthier advantages surround this type of interior paints. Other latex paints which have a higher VOC's giving off gases up to three years.

Walking into a room freshly painted, smelling that paint, smells like room was just painted. What you smell are those exact gases that continue to emit, but our noses gets used to it over time. Even though we may not notice fresh paint smell, toxic gases & formaldehyde emits much longer.

With these harmful gases emitting over a long period, many benefit having an Eco Paint on walls, ceiling, also trim inside. Expected mothers to-be, infants, seniors, or others who may have breathing concerns.

Understanding how many can benefit, is main reason most public facilities from libraries, public schools, to hospitals all require Green Earth Friendly paints now. Just like hand sanitizer is to restrooms, Eco Paint is to interior paints for a cleaner environment.

Do Eco Friendly Paints Cover As Good?

Do_Eco_Friendly_Paints_Cover_As_Good

Does Eco Friendly paints cover just as good as older paint mixtures? This was my question when they where first introduced. Well, I can attest these newer paints cover far better with one or two complete coats, than older formulations. If you are painting light over light, one coat is generally only needed.

Paint's viscosity or thickness equal to or better in many cases than previous paints sold. Giving a smooth, even paint coat, laying just as flat with same gloss or finish as before.

Paint technology is similar to a voice pager from early 90's, to today's iPhone! Latest paint attribute is making paints more fade resistant. Not only removing harmful gases, but making them lasting longer, keeping original colors lasting longer.

Does Eco Paint Last Longer?

Many wonder if Eco Paint lasts longer. Any new product we've may experienced in the past, remembering computer programs may have glitches, or new cars having recalls, needing immediate improvements.

Not the case with Eco Paint. Matter of fact, natural minerals, and clays having their own colors, have been lasting millions of years. Putting those same contents into paints, provides the longest color retention, as seen in King Tutt's exhibit, many 100's of years.

With several paint brand choices, several having paint and primer in one can, similar to exterior lifetime paints. Interior paints do not really have a warranty like exteriors, being inside paints, but gives you a higher level of confidence applying it. Knowing how well it covers, hides, and lays down, of a smooth even coating.

Understanding most interior paints have less VOC's than before, getting better and better every year. So is color retention making Eco Paints lasting much longer.
